I've used my Sigma EX 1.4TC on my 200L 2.8 a few times with preatty good results.

Today I thought I'd give it a go on my 135L.

The two images below (100% crops) were taken at F2.8 and F4. The image at F2.8 shows an almost Gaussian blue effect, it's only when you hit F4 does this go.

This isn't apparent on my 200L although this obviously only works from F4.

Is this normal behaviour?

Take off the UV filter and see what happens!

Looks to me like you missed focus and those are CA that you are seeing.

It doesn't make any difference removing the UV.

I didn't think it was normal.

Manually focused using liveview and 10x. You can literally see the effect on the screen and it doesn't go regardless of the focus.

Yes, this is normal and is why I don't recommend the 135L + TC combo...

I noticed the same effect shooting racing last weekend. 135L + Kenko 2x. It started to look like a soft focus lens wide open. Goes away stopping down one stop, just like you've found.

I assume this is normal; this lens is not the best candidate for use with teleconverters. My 200 f/2.8 did much better.
