I understand Canon's new lens is a 400mm 2.8 is L that will be priced at $899, but that info was from a fantasy I had while reading this tread so don't hold your breath.

I want a lens that would be able to see into the FUTURE!!! LOL No j/k, but seriously though, I would hope the for the EF 24-200 f/2.8 IS L would be a great announcement!!!!!!

I think your fantasy misrepresented the press release. It's actually $749 and it has 1:1 macro reproduction. With the 4-stop hybrid IS...of course.

well if we're talking fantasy ... i'd like to be included in the photos myself.

a 360 degree fisheye would be great

What does a full framer need?

IMO, the most pressing need of the full frame community would be a 24-70mm f/2.8 IS lens. I love the combination of 17-55mm f/2.8 IS and 70-200mm f/4L IS lenses on my 1.6x cameras. The 17-55mm f/2.8 IS is a fine low light lens. A 24-70mm f/2.8L MK-II IS lens would make a fine pair with any of the three 70-200L IS lenses. The 24-70L IS would be a great full frame low light lens, especially with the full-frame capability to shoot at high ISO.

-1 to an 8x zoom. Just saying. </=3x is where it's at.

Hmmm...that's interesting. 3x (or a little less) seems to be the sweet spot right now for L zooms (24-70, 70-200). If you could pick any 3x zoom range that would be most useful for you what would that be? Cue endless 200-600, 300-900, and 400-1200 responses.

Actually, there's not really a realistic range that canon doesn't cover other than 50-150. It would be awesome for Canon to ditch the 16-35L AND 17-40L and replace them both with 14-24 f/2.8L and 17-50 f/2.8L IS lenses, but for whatever reason this won't happen. You put the 17-40L build and internal focus/zoom together with the 17-55s image quality and a new 4-stop IS and you'd sell as many as you have EOS bodies in the market. That lens is a license to print money.

I love my 24-70L but a mk2 would be nice, with or without IS.

The 50 1.4 Mk II is around the corner from what I heard.

I think i required a lens that covers the who camera body, like a crystal ball. But it would be really cool though.

Would be guessing one or more of:

14-24L
24-70L IS
100-400L MkII

If they brought out a 14-24L on par with the Nikon, I'd have to add a fourth ready-to-shoot body to my arsenal...

canon should kickstart the race for a zoom faster than f/2.8

16-50 f/2 -- dont even need an IS at this range zoom range to save weight.
