Good evening.:D

That D3100 is actually looking very interesting, especially with the video capabilities.

if it stays at around $500 then it will definitely give canon a run for their money.

From a recent trip to Lake Tahoe. The 70-200 and the D700 were flawless in operation as was the 24-70. Just for the record: none of the following are my family :-).

Paddleboarding now seems very mainstream and a whole lot of fun too. Amazing seeing all the little kids roam around on adult boards.

Thank you.. AFAIK, Intramuros is one of the largest Old city.

are you a Filipino? haha yeah... that other side is pretty bad there... Tondo. I used to live somewhere there also, near Tutuban if you know that place. but now I am in Cebu...its far safer and nicer here hehe

I am talking about the thin sheet that sticks on the LCD, at least these doesn't allow dust to go inside there...unlike the ones that comes with the D700.

yea man. I grew up between Cebu (lived right below Cebu Plaza) and Manila. when I said behind the wall (Fort Santiago) like 2 feet behind that wall lol. Houses made of plywood and sheet metal. yea, it's pretty bad. most people are jobless but they can afford liquor, imagine that.

joove, those are nice shots. I can't wait to save enough for 70-200 2.8. seem pretty sharp wide open like 24-70

not successful, far from it lol. I drive a truck for a living. but it beats being in a gang over there though. past life.

the more I see shots from 70-200 VR II the more I'm drawn to it.

on another note. finally got to try my 3rd Sigma 50mm 1.4. Amazon came through and overnight me the lens. Saturday delivery nonetheless.

as the saying goes. Third time's the charm.
finally a Sigma 50 that's focus. sweet spot seems to be F2, 1.8 still has a bit CA but all I care right now is it's working great.

well as I have said in another thread, a truck driver there earns well more than a professional here..

you know it more than anybody else, a professional here couldn't even afford a car how much more a house. and look at your gear hehe if you go back there your gang mates will never recognize you anymore.. or worse they might all be gone by now.

is it really a common trait of the f/1.4 lenses to have CA? mine also have CA from 1.4 to 1.8.

Some kids were paddling by themselves. Others were climbing all over some scary rock formations in search of crabs to hunt :-). Fantastic kids and even more fantastic parents I think.

Yeah it is. A lovely lens. Doesn't see much use though for my style of shooting. When I use it however, it always delivers.

someone was talking in here the other day about if the D3s was that much better than the D700/D3.

I don't normally spend time on FM (except the B&S) but this was an interesting high iso comparison.

http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/927244 (external link)

I'm still amazed at how well the D700 did, even though the D3s was clearly superior at the highest iso's.

Hi Permagrin,

Think it was myself and Nicksan - thanks for the link. Your not making this very easy for me are you???? Was trying to hold out on the D3s, but so tempting when looking at those results. Ummmmmmm

You mean you don't normally spent time on FM (except when you want to read B.S.)?;)

You know, when I was ready to buy the 1DMKIV earlier this year, I did the side-by-side with the 1DMKIV, D3, D700, D3s and was also just amazed at the fact that the D3s had at least 1 stop over the rest. The difference becomes more evident beyond ISO6400. ISO12800 on the D3s looked like ISO3200-6400 on the D3/D700/1DMKIV. That's just silly IMO. I was definitely drooling for the D3s looking to get the D3s + D700 combo. When I made the switch to Nikon common sense got the better of me and I ended up with a used D3 and a D700 which allowed me to secure the 200VR. So I don't regret that decision one bit.

In reality, for what I shoot, what I have is good enough. Would I love to have that extra stop margin for high ISO. Heck yeah and perhaps when the season ends, I will decide on what to do. Hopefully we'll get more than just rumors as far as what Nikon has in store for us as far as the next gen D700 line is concerned.

See, that's the thing with Nikon. You just know they are going to do something nice with the next D700 instead of cripple it! :)

Looks like he was testing with in-camera NR on.

But since the camera now wants to apply fairly significant NR in-cam even on low settings, the results are still very clean and highly usable

So to me, this is a little bit of a useless test b/c I have in-camera turned off. You can clearly see the details being destroyed in his testing. I think the 2 stop claim is a little iffy since he's got NR turned on.

That said, the D3s clearly still does have at least 1 stop advantage and to me, that's still very significant!
