I do have my 18-55, I just never pick up my 17-40 enough to justify keeping it around but when I do I always use the wide end.

Considering to buy this lens with 2x and 1.4x for my 7D also for wildlife photography , i'm even consider to NOT buy 300 F4 as with this zoom i'm lot more versatile and IQ form it with 2x its just quite stunning. Wow, seriously....!!!! those are stunning. I would have expected it to do so well with "macro" like shooting. makes me want to get this a lot sooner..!!! Thanks..!! It does need light though, but I guess so does anything at 5.6.. These 2 were last night just at sunset.. Higher ISO but still usable. I think..
