I read recently that the new Sigma 70-200 OS was going to have a new finish instead of the typical Sigma crinkle coat, but what I did not realize was that they are also applying this new finish to other lenses!

Here's my 50mm f/1.4 that just arrived today. Notice that the main lens body has the new coating, but the focusing ring still has the older crinkle finish.

Anybody else get a recent EX series lens with this new finish instead of the typical crinkle coating?

Wow wow wow!!! I'm definitely excited. I wanted to get the 70-200 non-OS for some time, but was alwAys thrown off by the finish. Now I have hope! Looks like Sigma finally listened to their customers.

Wow... I didn't really dislike the old finish, but the new finish is slick, jealous =P Want to trade your new one for my old one? =)

I wasn't too hot on the old finish, especially when it started to flake after X years. This new gig definitely looks nice!

Wish my 150 had the new finish, though not sure I'd like half-half. About time Sigma fixed it.

I hope the new coating stays on better than the old one.

Oh how I hate the old finish. It was so scratchable. Not a big fan of glitter either...

is this for all new sigma ex lenses, or does it only apply to the new wave of releases (70-200, 85mm, etc)?

I have an earlier lens with the old finish... that new one does look so much better.
They could darken the color a bit too, to make it a better match with the camera bodies.
Not that it's all that important as long as the lens does what it's supposed to do optically.

the OP's pic is of the 50 which is older but not the oldest... So who knows. The other question is how long will it take to get rid of all the old inventory?

I've owned a lot of sigma's in my day. I hated the old finish but put up with it. Nice to see they finally changed it but I'd want the rings to be changed too.

Maybe those are random flukes and will be collectors selling big in some years!
