Never heard a peep from mine...

You do have to listen closely if there is any normal background noise in the area. I have to put my L-358 up to my ear to hear the tone.

Some folks may be hard of hearing for the frequency of the tone, making it hard to hear it even with the meter up against the ear.

My 758DR make a very low buzzing sound when the LCD light is on. It can only be heard when it's put close to the ear. The moment the LCD goes off, the buzzing stops. IMO, it's not an issue. I can also see some commonality from comments from other users here.

Mine makes a slight noise with the backlight on. Have to hold it to my ear to hear it.

My question is a bit off-topic but I figure I could ask here with all the L-358 owners around.

1. How do I reset the light meter to factory settings? Is there such thing?
2. How do I recalibrate it?

Both these items are covered in the manual. It is available in .pdf form on line.

I only found the +/- EV by holding down the two ISO buttons. Let me look again.

There are instructions for setting temporary skewing and for skewing the meter to match your equipment. You should not do this lightly. The temporary skewing is great for using a polarizer or nd filter.
I'd tell you how but I have to look it up too.
