Does anyone know a reputable lens rental store in the Central NJ area? Or is it better to simply rent from an online dealer?

You can rent from Calumet Camera in Philadelphia, NYCV outside of Philadelphia, but personally its easier to use LensRentals.com

Thanks JonK. I guess I should put my equipment list in my signature. I'm somewhat of a newb... I've been shooting with a 400D for a few years now, mostly kids/family, etc.

That 100mm f/2.8L macro looks interesting. How often do you use it?

I use it a fair amount - I find it great to walk around town with. Its macro but the IS and length make it great for snapping pictures of people or similar.

I just checked the sample image thread for that lens. Looks amazing! Oh, and I finally updated my signature.

I rent from NYCV only when I'm up against a time crunch - it is about 25% more, but if you need a lens now, you need a lens now. If I have 3 days advance warning, I use lenrentals.com. Highly recommended.

Remember, if you rent locally, try to find a place that's closed one day a week or on certain holidays. They'll usually give you two or three days for the price of one.

In San Diego, last Memorial Day, I was able to get a lens on Friday morning and return it a few days later. They only charged me one day.

Also, if you use your American Express Card, you are covered for $1000 dollars of damage. That helps too.

Research it well before you rent. There are ways to score deals.

Thank you. bw!
