Why would it end up being $10,000 instead of the usual $8,000? The 645D is $10,000 and is MF and 40 MP. The 1Ds4 will not be close to $10,000 nor even over $9,000. I bet it will cost Canon less to produce a 32MP 1Ds4 image sensor than it did to produce their 11MP 1Ds image sensor. Adding pixels does not necessarily make it more expensive to produce.

Bumping a few pixels on each side makes no sense. Even from the marketing pov. What's the point of going from 5616 x 3744 to let's say 6500 x 4300? Barely noticeable... marketing aside, there is also something out there called technology. We simply can't get 40mpx in a $8k body today. You had to pay over $30k for that, a couple of years ago. Just look at the price of the Leica S2. It sells for 22k!

Hassy is just a big sensor enclosed in a plastic box. you pay 90% of that hassy price for that sensor. lol. canon 1Ds4 is much more of a camera than that. you have AF performance, fps at these high mpx values, tough build body, and so much more. I'm guessing that with 1D4 we are reaching the end of lifespan for digic4s. that camera has 2 of em and goes as fast as these processors allow. so if we cut the fps in half, we can double the mpx size so it comes up to 32mpx at 5fps. and I'm guessing thats it for digic4s. so if you want extra DR on top of that, it will require some processing power as well. so 29.somethin mpx count looks right within what dual digic4s can achieve. I luv canon's glass. I just don't understand how two most influential companies in DSLR market can be run totally different from each other. How can Nikon can be run by smart people and Canon gets some marketing folks to run the company?? Its not like they can't do it, its just they don't do it properly. Even Sony is run in a smarter way this years ... [Facebook®
