at 32mp this camera may end up being 10k. for that id just get a used h3d39 or 31 for 10-12k and have way better DR.. focusing wont be nearly as good but for what I do, id go with the hasselblad any day

curious though, maybe the 1ds3 prices will go down and i can get one

If you want higher resolution go Digital MF instead. :)

I would, but I need something I can actually carry with me :)
Not only that, but 1 frame per second, a crappy 230K LCD and terrible plastic
is not exactly my idea of a perfect super-expensive camera.
Plus I have a few lenses I found the best for me so far. They have a Canon mount,
all of them.
The only close thing is Leica S2 with two available lenses, and they are not
exactly as good as Leica think they are. Plus that crappy low rez LCD, it's killing me
to look at it, when my little Ricoh has a better one...

Why would it end up being $10,000 instead of the usual $8,000? The 645D is $10,000 and is MF and 40 MP. The 1Ds4 will not be close to $10,000 nor even over $9,000. I bet it will cost Canon less to produce a 32MP 1Ds4 image sensor than it did to produce their 11MP 1Ds image sensor. Adding pixels does not necessarily make it more expensive to produce.

Think of it this way, for $2,000 less than the 645D you can have a much more flexible system (better high ISO), have far more specialty lenses that will autofocus, probably have full 1080p video, live view, 5 fps vs. about 1 fps and you really only have to give up 8MP.

no, it's not "a double".
from 5616 x 3744 to 7650 x 5100 is not such a huge jump at these resolutions.
Bumping a few pixels on each side makes no sense. Even from the marketing pov.
What's the point of going from 5616 x 3744 to let's say 6500 x 4300? Barely noticeable...

marketing aside, there is also something out there called technology. We simply can't get 40mpx in a $8k body today. You had to pay over $30k for that, a couple of years ago.

If Canon can do a 40 mp sensor to compete with Digital MF, I'm all for it. Just look at the price of the Leica S2. It sells for 22k! :)

hehe, canon can do a lot of things ^_^ like a FF 1D4. lol. but a 40mpx 1Ds4 is not happening. Remember that 1Ds4 does not = hassy. Hassy is just a big sensor enclosed in a plastic box. you pay 90% of that hassy price for that sensor. lol. canon 1Ds4 is much more of a camera than that. you have AF performance, fps at these high mpx values, tough build body, and so much more. I'm guessing that with 1D4 we are reaching the end of lifespan for digic4s. that camera has 2 of em and goes as fast as these processors allow. so if we cut the fps in half, we can double the mpx size so it comes up to 32mpx at 5fps. and I'm guessing thats it for digic4s. so if you want extra DR on top of that, it will require some processing power as well. so 29.somethin mpx count looks right within what dual digic4s can achieve.

"If you want higher resolution go Digital MF instead".

I would but I'd require two systems, for motorsports I'd need to keep the 30D and at least the 100-400L and 1.4x converter. It makes that option even more expensive than it is already.

The 1Ds is a full frame body. I'd have thought crop frame is extremely well catered for with the 1D. And maybe the time has come for Canon to branch out and offer something in the MF area.

but with Nikon Fx you can have the FF benefits and then it has a crop mode, just in case you need it. I can't make 1D4 FF by pressing a button :( I was expecting canon to go FF with 1D5 but the news that they are still developing 1.3 crop sensors doesn't sound good to me at all. :( I hate nikon but at least they have some clear future ahead. Canon is just going bananas lately. If 1Ds4 is nothing short of revolutionary ( and it won't be ) I'm gonna stop caring about canon world at all. They worst thing is that I want these mpx and Nikon doesn't have any answer for it at all. Unless you have $8k in your pocket. Also it doesn't seem to change anytime in the near future since Sony is making sensors for Nikon. ehhh ...

Sounds like you want a Nikon. :) Good luck with getting the colors to pop like a Canon. ;)

I don't, I really don't. I luv canon's glass. I just don't understand how two most influential companies in DSLR market can be run totally different from each other. How can Nikon can be run by smart people and Canon gets some marketing folks to run the company?? Its not like they can't do it, its just they don't do it properly. Even Sony is run in a smarter way this years ...

EDIT:
I figured it out!! thats it!! Nikon is run by canon's old CEO that was fired in a way for a new from Segate. The Canon's old CEO, who was doing a great job back then now moved to Nikon to get back at Canon. Canon hired Segate CEO, that can only understand MPX and GB/TBs so he alwyas goes for the more mpx, the better so eventually people will run out of space on their hard drives and they're gonna have to buy new Segate drives. its just a one big conspiracy.
