I see alot of people referring to a nifty fifty, what is this and what does it do, and if I wanted one, where is the cheapest place to buy one (UK Only).

Thanks in advance.

It's a lens. Canon 50mm f/1.8. I don't know the answer to the last question, sorry.

How to know you're spending too much time on forums: you don't know what something is or what it does, but you want to buy it!

IT IS LENS AND TAKES THE PICTURES.

Nah I'm kiddnig, it's a 50mm prime lens, 1.8. Basically it's considered the ultimate awesome lens in that price range (100USD). Yes you want one if you don't have another 50mm lens that's better than it.

cheapest place in the UK? I'm not sure, but it should cost about the same. (In conversion)

Thanks peeps, just been on YouTube and had a look at what it does, to be honest, it looks fantasctic, its a definite buy, I see there's a MK 2 version, I assume this is better than the first version?

Maybe I'm wrong to assume lol

You are wrong to assume.
The MK1 is a much better built lens, with the same optics.
And it cost more, if you can find one.

The 50 1.8 II has the poorest build quality of any lens and very poor focusing in low light. Soft at 1.8 and becomes sharp at 2.8. It is pants.

This is why I hate the term nifty fifty. It sounds dumb, and it confuses new photographers all the time.
