First ocean shot C&C please

Hello all i am new to DSLR and this is my first ocean shot around sunset.

it was taken with my Canon 30D using a tripod.

f/22, 3.2 seconds at 28mm

please let me know what you think.

Looks like you got the concept. Now lets work on the composition. (Like including the sunset)

I liked the texture of the water. The composition seems vague to hold the attention though.
you could have included more sky (because of the sunset) or more of the water.

problem was im on the east coast so to sunset is behind me! which mean i would have o wake my ass up early to get the shot with the sun haha, and i needed to crop a lot of it so i could upload it, any help with this?

How about resizing it instead of cropping it? As everyone else said - there isn't much to this photo. Technically not bad, but not much to look at. If you're just cropping down, maybe just a crop of the breakwater as some kind of abstract piece.

There wasn't much cut off with the crop then - actually the man adds some interest, but not much - and being on the edge leads the viewer's eyes off the image. Not sure that any of the original comments still don't apply. The water, while nice and wispy doesn't hold much interest.

Nice location, bad crop.

I like this image. I think it has character. IMO it could use some local sharpening of the pillars and possibly some contrast adjustment.
