I don't know how you manage that, but in your shoes, I'd be picking up two 1Ds IVs upon release.

Jus' saying.

yep, then sell me one for $5k ^_^ and a case of beer of your choice.

Define "case". 24 or 36?

Regardless.

if anyone sells me 1Ds4 for that price, they can define the word "case" for themselves. lol. I won't care at that point ^_^

also ... is 1Ds4 out yet!?? where is it!?? I need to know whether I can sell my car already or not.

Hahahaha.

As much as I want the 1Ds IV to be announced ASAP, I want the 60D to make public face first so that the likelihood of Digic V in the 1Ds IV is less of a far-cry.

With the 60D actually coming out, I don't know whether to call Canon predictable or the very the opposite. To me, the 7D release makes less sense than ever but I really do laugh at the people over the 60D rumors thread debating plastic vs. magnesium alloy bodies. It appears as though debating the speculation of the release has been replaced with justifying unofficial specs. Its not that I don't think the 60D will be plastic (as Canon definitely needs to differentiate between their line of 1.6x crop bodies), but it will be interesting to see what the articulating screen resolution is gonna be and whether or not video is going to integrated into the body.

It is all fun speculation for me as I am not in the market for 1Ds IV or 60D, but I would like to see Canon kick up some dirt and put Nikon back into a slumber-like state of ponder. While I do enjoy their being full-frame competition for Canon, Canon has yet to respond (and the 5D II -- chronology considered).

This is yet another thing that makes me think that Canon may break the mold with 1Ds IV. Coupled with the 60D possibly being announced before it...really makes for some anticipation.

60D with digic5 is gonna be very unlikely. but then again, there could be so much speculation about this thing. The best bet for canon is to do 60D with digic4 and canon loves best and safe bets. When was the last time canon went bonkers and released something extra ordinary!? ummm .... ya. 60D with 18mpx sensor and Digic5 would cut into the sales of 7D. Why go on a war with the same company you work for!? the only way 60D with digic5 will fly is if they push it more as a video DSLR, rather then a still camera. Then you will have to buy 7D for good stills and 60D for good video so everyone is happy. Digic5 in 1Ds4 still looks very meh. I would say its the most probable camera to arrive with digic5 (apart from 5D3) but the chances of that happening are still very slim. It would require canon to go bonkers and listen to their customers instead of their marketing folks. It would be rather a risky decision and canon doesn't like that. They dont even have any incentive to do so. lol. They are still #1 company out there in the photo world, so why change something that works so well. only us folks switching to Nikon can make a difference ^_^

as for 60D thread and speculations, I don't even wanna get into it. Its the least interesting camera for me at this time.

You guys have way too much time to spend here.
Who cares, digic 4, digic 5 or digic 9? It's not a computer you have to worry
if your brand spanking new game v17 will run on it in 3 years.
I don't care about any specs. 1Ds MkIII has too many options for me.
I only use MF lenses so I don't even care if AF is improved (hasn't this been
great for years excluding a little 1DIII hiccup?)
All I care about is more resolution and more dynamic range in a package
I can carry everywhere with me without paying attention to the weather forecast.
5D MkII has been great except I would like more resolution (with actual increase
in detail, not just more pixels just because) and I would like more information
in my shadows. I also don't want to worry if it's not too humid to use it. That's it.

Kind of sounds like you want a 1Ds regardless of your disposition towards processors. What I think you're not really catching is that our (well, at least my) speculations here are in hopes that Canon does exactly that:

- Increase DR (usable across the ENTIRE range unlike the 5D II where low ISO banding is still an issue)
- Increase ISO range
- Reasonably increase resolution
- Increase FPS

All this talk about processors is just a half-step for me to convince myself Canon is gonna do something different with the 1Ds IV besides the nominal increase in MP, minute increase in FPS, and being just a clone of the 1D IV. Why? Because this is Canon's first dSLR that would have been made post-FF competition sprouting up. Alas, I think my hopes are blindly kept.

If they are gonna do anything revolutionary, they will probably do it in the 5D series bodies seeing as it is within a reasonable price range to be used as their cash-cow.

If the 5D III has the 7D AF system (even if it was shorthanded to be only 9 cross-type AF points to differentiate), 100% VF coverage, and no low ISO banding SOOC...then I'll most definitely "demote" myself to a 5D III.

I would go for 5D MkIII except I have no hopes for any improvements
in rigidity and weatherproofing. Unfortunately humidity is something I really
want to stop worrying about.
Even though people have been asking for a small size professional body
for years, they won't make one.

Wow, what makes think you know so much about what canon is going to do? Canon does not care if people are happy or not they just want to sell cameras. I don't see digic 5 as being risky at all, if it has been tested and it is ready for production they will use it.

I think the new sonys will be a bit compromised on image quality.

The pellical mirror seems to be causing reflections onto the sensor, and it shuts out 1/2 a stop of light, plus sonys usualyt nightmare with noise reduction.

It'll make a great camera for sure, but stil canon have the image quality and colour, which when it comes down to it is what matters.

Oh that and roking solid SLRs and lenses.

John,

"Oh, I love how some just believe that their cameras are technologically obsolescent and incapable of producing good pictures when a new body from a line they fancy is announced".

You've got me thinking. If the mk 4 does not live up to its hype, then buying a used mk3 is one alternative. Much cheaper as well. I'd prefer a camera that doubles the pixel count of my current 30D in both dimensions, but its certainly worth looking into provided the price is sensible.

Julian,

"Got any extra in the bank for me"?

Are you braced for the exorbitant interest rates I'd charge. I think the word for it is "Usury".

I don't, that why I call it my analysis. Digic5 is risky for canon as they would have to skip the whole generation of digic4s and therefore put the 1Ds4 ahead of 1D4, technology wise. Thats not very canon-ish. They will never do anything to cut into sales of their other products or make em look worse. Digic4 is a safe bet for them and thats what canon has been doing for the last years. do I want 1Ds4 to be an absolute monster!? yes, is it really going to happen with 39mpx!? no.

I rather want to see canon improves on their weather sealing, faster FPS and durabilities.
