Nice Ric.^^^. The 5D2 sings with the long lenses I see.

Thankyou Methodical,
but it's the lense itself..

It's such a privilege, for a non pro, to run with this lense.
Every Body is singing with this lense

the 400 at "concert"

Can anyone post a 400/2.8 example with a 2X converter? I am going to rent this lens when I go to a bird sanctuary.

Here's a rather eclectic mix with the 2xII t/c fitted.

All uncropped, just resized for web and minor USM

Be prepared for the extrem narrow depth of filed, it's a beauty but can be painfull to archive it.

sorry for OT, it's ok to remove them, just a short personal view:
the 400 2.8 IS shows a "fantastic" sharp and top notch IQ, on several bodies.
With the 1.4II extender, it's still superb , I guess 95% of the resolving power and sharpness is still there,
with the 2xII (my piece of) there is a visible lost in IQ and sharpness (pixel peeping!),

still better than most zooms, I guess, we went to 75% or even less of the native lens.
But he! we have 800mm..

regards ric

here 2 examples with the 5dII and the 2xII, no crops.

OldGear here is the 400L f/2.8 IS + 2x + 50D = 1280mm...it depends how you nail the subject...at first I was concerned using the 1.4 T-Con and had no hopes using the 2X...once I saw the results...I can shoot with a 400, 540 or 800 without reservation...;) The 400 is just an amazing piece of glass...pound per pound!

400 2.8L IS II is out, as are 1.4x III and 2.0x III. the mtf charts look amazing even at 2x...

bastards.

It lost about 3.5 pounds too - wow; it's about the weight of the current 500 f4. Can you say really hand holdable
