The Nikon version doesn't have a focusing motor. It relies on the body's motor and won't AF on the D40/40x/60/3000/5000. That may explain why it's cheaper than the Canon version.

Canon lens are always more expensive (when not the same price) than the other brand variants. Same goes for the used prices on ebay. High demand for Canon!
