Over the 4th of July Holiday I was in Oregon and picked up a 5D MK ii at BestBuy. Canon had rebates going on which was $100.00 off the 5D. I had a BB RewardZone coupon for 10% off. So when I got back I realized they didn't give me the 10% off but only $150.00.

Ok So Retail was $2,499.99-$100.00 Canon instant Rebate =$2,399.99
-10% off coupon $239.99=$2,160.00

I was given $100.00 Instant Rebate - $150.00 So I paid $2250.00 The reason I am wondering is because they didn't give me my full 10% or they didn't give me my Canon Rebate.

They still got $100.00 off the Camera because that was a Canon thing right? but they gipped me on the coupon? I do know that these coupons do not work on sale item's So if it was a sale I wouldn't have gotten the 10% at all. I think that because it was a Canon Instant rebate I should have gotten the whole 10%. Anyone have this experience or any thoughts?

Seems like something you are going to have to call and complain to Best Buy about. Hard for any of us to say, but your math does seem right assuming the coupon was valid. Was there perhaps a max discount on the coupon?

i dont think they will listen a 2 month old claim. if you caught onto it at that time, i'm sure someone would have fixed it. You can always try writing best buy corporate

Did you factor in tax on your calculation?

As far as I know it is 10% now weather it should be 10% from full retail $2,499.99 = $249.99 or 10% after the Canon instant rebate $2,399.99 = $239.99 I don't know.

I actually wrote in on 07-19-10 and on 07-20-10 I received the following email.

"Best Buy Customer,

This is an auto-acknowledgement indicating we received your message. We are eager to assist you and will address your inquiry within the next 48 hours. If you need immediate assistance, please call 1-888-BESTBUY (1-888-237-8289).

Thank you for your patience.

Best wishes from Best Buy,
Reward Zone"

I haven't heard anything since.

The State of Oregon has no sales tax. Which is why I decided to buy it while I was there on my trip.

Yes, I read it was not valid for Sony DSLR but otherwise said nothing in reference to Canon.

are you sure there was not an upper limit on the coupon? $150 sounds like a max discount.

Well the max discount was 10%

Yet they treated a Canon Instant rebate as part of that.

I guess the real question should be is the Instant Rebate the same as a sale price or is it an additional discount given to the customer via the retailer?

I attached the Canon promotion and a Similar Bestbuy coupon to the one I used.

I was going to buy my 7D there when the canon rebate was on but they said the RZ coupon would come off the regular price because it was on sale and you can only have one of the two discounts. I argued saying it wasn't on sale, Canon temporarily lowered the price. Told them I'll just buy if from some other place online then and walked away. (and got a MUCH better deal in the end anyway)

I imagine had you asked they would have given you the same runaround crap. The RZ coupons do have the "not valid with any other offer" line on them.

Thanks Jimbob I think that is exactly my argument. It was not a sale. It was a instant rebate from Canon. So maybe I argue once and let it go. I still didn't do too bad $2249.99, No Tax & 36 months 0% financing

Good luck. I've heard stories of people being able to negotiate with Best Buy 'policies' but I have never had any such luck.

From what I read of the coupon, they considered the instant rebate a "sale price". The 10% coupon is only good on regular price merchandise. You get one or the other, not both.

As a FORMER Best Buy employee, this is exactly correct. Best Buy incorporates the rebate into the price and that makes it a "sale" price. Always read the fine print on their RZ coupons.

also wanted to add that in Canada, Best Buy isn't considered an authorized Canon seller, and the rebates never apply - not sure if this is the same for you...
