Just a quick question on anyone elses' experience with the Photosmart Plus.

Last year when my old printer died I bought the "Plus" in large part because the cost of cartridge replacement was low. A full load of 3 colors + black is about $45.00 vs about $68.00 for my previous HP (Photosmart 760).

HOWEVER, I find the number of prints out of this system to be on the very low side and the damn thing nags constantly about low ink. In reality, my impression is it isn't "cheaper" at all, I just order inks more often.

Anybody else see this?

I recently bought a HP Photosmart 309g. It drinks the yellow ink like it's going out of fashion! This is with the supplied inks from new - it used to be said that supplied ink cartridges had very little ink in them, enough to get started.
A search on Amazon revealed the 'XL' cartridges for a very reasonable price - my first arrived today. So it will be interesting to see what happens with the 'XL' cartridges.
I really like the results though, it's a first class printer.

Sadly, I think we ALL do, to a certain extent... Options are-- Use only the higher capacity XL cartridges. Sams Club sells them in a combo package for low price. Or... use less expensive third party inks. But be sure to have a custom print profile made for your favorite photo paper.

The funny part is that the XL cartridges are more than the price to reload the 760. So I'm back to square one.

Oh well. CVS for snaps and MPIX for real work must be smiling broadly.
