OMG it is gorgeous. Some beautiful design work at play, I'm glad that they stepped it up from the super bland type on the pre-2k9 lenses. I love the clean font and the way that they use it instead of the old ultrasonic logo. The design just seems much cleaner to me.

I will guess that 95% of people here won't notice or care though

Case in point:

Could you provide a before example? Looking at my 2004 kit lens I'm not seeing any difference in the font and the layout varies by the lens.

Check out the 'ultrasonic' on the new 70-300, for a quick example. Looks way cleaner to me.

"Canon" is still in the same ugly font, though... (kidding )

I do agree, on average, the lenses are better looking the last couple years.

So you're just on about the Ultrasonic logo being replaced with normal text? Hardly a huge change, I thought you were on about a complete design overhaul.

The whole design is a bit different as well. The nametag plate-things (see 17mmts) are new, and the all-white (no more silver on the rim there etc) design is quite nice.

The font is different...thinner and cleaner.

Seriously I have my 6 year old kitlens right in front of me, if the "new" font is any thinner it's in the thousandth of millimetres. It looks to be nigh on identical, if I can't spot the change after 5 minutes of comparing an old lens with a new one then it's not a big enough change to get excited about.

For comparison purposes...

That's the old 24 mm f/3.5L T-SE lens. I no longer own it, but I still had the image on line.

That's weird, my lens doesn't have those S's like the 24mm, they're the same as the 17mm.

Which lens do you have? I'm not sure that all my lenses have the same lettering. the 24TS-E is a bit unique, I guess.

Is it me or do the new Canon IS telephotos not look off-white anymore and are now full-on white?
