Is there a difference between the 2 lenses as far a contrast (micro?) and color are concerned?

The more I shoot with my Zeiss 50 MP, the more I'm tuned in to the whole contrast / color thing :-(

Damn Zeiss! LOL

just sold the 24-105, but had both lenses briefly. the 24-70 had a little more contrast to my eyes, but I did not sell the 24-105 because of this.

cant you fix contrast in post anyways?

Only an untrained eye can appreciate the sharpness of a lens...

I have had 2 of each and found both colour and contrast to be better on the 24-70L

My friend compared his 24/70 to his 24/105 and, in his opinion, the 70 produced better colour and contrast.

It's too bad that Canon engineers doesn't involve in forums like this, I suppose that is funny to them to see these kind of questions (and answers especially :), as they probably use the same optic elements in both lenses.

I've used both and the 24-105 has terrific contrast and color saturation. The 24-70 design is getting a bit stale, and is not as sharp as other offerings, including the 24-105.

It may be more difficult to get the 24-70 dialed in, but once it is, its plenty sharp. Mine is a razor at 2.8, but it took a trip back to Canon to get there. The 24-70 produces a polished look that has a refinement to it that is difficult to describe. It is truly a pro caliber lens. One weaknesses is the field curvature issue that shows up on the wide end when used on a FF camera.

Lately I've been thinking of trading for the 24-105. The fact that I'd pick up IS, a couple hundred $$$ and loose 10oz from my kit are appealing. The loss of the 2.8 aperture and the extra barrel distortion of the 24-105 are the downsides.

Hopefully Canon will get around to building a new 24-70L IS soon. Its downside will be, of course, a rediculous price tag.
