Picked up a 100mm F2.8 Macro last week and had a play in the garden over the weekend.

I'm eager to get my speed-light bracketed or purchase a ringflash but I need to look into this a bit more. Anyhow, these are shot with 100mm and the 430EXII mounted on the hotshoe.

Would love some comments.

This was my very first shot with the lens, using just the pop-up flash.

Good first shots. The ladybug / beetle looks odd like it's shell is dented in.
I too use a 430 EX II camera mounted. I'd like a ring flash but can't justify the expense so I made a tube out of a cardboard muffin box with a diffuser on the end from a styrofoam bowl with coffee filters for the lens. Not perfect but it helps to soften the light a bit.

Great tips, I'll try and make something myself as some shots the flash is just too high.

the ladybird did have a dented shell. How bizarre.
