Hello,

I've searched the forum and I can't seem to find what I'm looking for, so I figured I should just pose the question for some help.

What is the order of IQ in terms of the 70-200 canon variety? Or does the cost dictate the order of IQ?

I've seen it here on the forum, but I think it was just posted in a thread for reference. If at all possible, I'd like to know which gives the sharpest picture/IQ, from best to so-so. I'll take a stab at it, and hopefully members can post some feedback on how I think it goes;

1) 2.8 ii IS --------Best IQ
2) 2.8 i IS
3) 2.8 non-IS
4) 4 IS
5) 4 non-IS --------So-so

If that is incorrect, someone please tell me what it should be?
Thanks in advance.

I'd consider this to be the correct order. 2.8 IS and 4 Non-IS are pretty close though imo.

I cannot comment the f.4 non IS and f 2.8 non IS. But I own the 2.8 IS II and I had 2.8 IS and 4 IS version before. I think my order is

2.8IS II (no con) >

2.8 IS ( I had a sharp copy, sharp at 2.8, very sharp at 4, contrast can be better but bokeh is top notch) >

4 IS (Contrast and sharpness are good even wide open but bokeh is not what I want.)

any reason why the 70-200 2.8 non-is is on the bottom of the list?

BTW, you want sharpness order or IQ order? IQ is more than just sharpness.

Can anyone comment on the general sharpness/IQ of the f4 non IS, thinking about picking one up in a few months as they are only ~$700, the f4 IS adds ~$600 which basically makes it a no-go.

Is it an awesome zoom for that price?

Is a tripod necessary for a lot of shots with a non IS?
