I had a model shoot schedule at a local salon, Theme for me was a vintage Bride. Kim will be wedded this fall and i will be her photographer.
but since my friend Ryan Hicks is moving to Florida soon, and our days limited, i had asked to see if ryan would join us for the session.
Ryan is a very talented photographer, photoshopper, and graphic designer, (graphic design was his major).. as a Purdue Grad he will be taking his talents to florida so and i know he will have much success.
we do lots of shoots together and it always seems we produce great results..
things i do when i roll up on the set:
look at my compositions
1. evaluate the land scape shot and look for vertical shots too..
2. find a way to create an interesting shot by ways of light.. (i always want to back light something)

then i ask ryan what he wants to do.
then we trade off ideas and shooting order.
so he booms the light for me.. then i take my shots
then he takes the lead and i boom the lights for him.
we do this for about 8 different series..
we have done this method with many of our shoots.. (Evan Todd Aveda Store fashion shoot, Ashley senior, Molly model, etc)
the thing is we with our combined efforts have always had great results and i wanted in ecourage you to find a shooting friend when going out there
somebody you enjoy time with, and have simular shooting styles and with both heads together you can't fail !.
something funny that happened on this shoot was, i grabbed a camera and was ready to shoot and then i realized i picked up Ryans camera !
he has the same equipment, same body, grip and lens.. bizzare ! haha..
well that just helps us out.. we yell out our settings and it really seemless being same everything..
i rarely boom lights because i am the shooter, but it give me a different perspective on holding the lights and talking to the subject from the pole end.
i have many things i to thank Ryan for..
1. My flickr account.. best gift ever..
2. Photoshop lessons..
3. Being a good strobist friend..

and the recent fun with ryan..
@ Ryan.. post your photos here too !!

first from my Bridal series " Vintage Bride "
the window light was faked by my Alien Bee AB1600 with a PLM for RIM lighting thru the store window..
i was iffy if it was going to work but it worked out to provide that dreamy sun light that wasn't there.. haha.. just faked it..
and the front lighting was the Elinchrom Quadra.. boomed by my friend Ryan Hicks..
photoshop work was
1. desaturate layer
2. rust color
3. texture layer for noise
AB1600 @ 1/2 power with 64 PLM for rim lighting rear back
elinchrom quadra with Deep Octa for front key lighting about 6 feet camera right

1. key light was the quadra at about .8 power
2. background lighting was the AB1600 with the 86 inch PLM with a yellow gel to color the grass up a bit.

Everyone is really kind with their comments. Pham is right ... find a friend to shoot with not only does it make your life easier, but concepts will come easier to both of you. If only I could move him to FL with me. I'm looking to move by the end of September. So if anyone is down in the Jacksonville, FL area lets get together!

I will have another of Kim posted up tonight.
Kim

Loving these Pham!! You never disappoint.

The first two bridals are amazing! Both have totally different looks. Love the edgy look in the first and the soft feel of the second. Very good!!
