Correct the first pic in photoshop for corner distortion and it should look as good as new!

Your lens gives a new definition to the term "barrel distortion"

lols, thats pretty funny hahaha.

glad this turns out well for the OP!

Awesome! Would they give you a new one or a refurbished one? Luckily you didn't damage any of YOUR internals when you landed. My ribs probably would of broke if that happened to me.

Reminds me of when my 24-70 fell off a table, bounced off a chair, and landed mount-down (rear cap on) on a metal table leg. Wouldn't autofocus after that, but Canon fixed it up good.

That's the thing with expensive lenses: it's worth getting them fixed!

Glad u didn't have the filter on. Otherwise, it would've scratched up the whole thing from the inside.

That's a pain to even look at these photos. :(

Update #2: YES! The new lens has arrived. I'm so very glad that Canon stepped up and just straight up replaced the lens rather than dragging it on by saying they have to wait for backordered parts...

The lens came pristine condition. Date code UY0717!!! Yep, July 17, 2010.

I'm happy again. :D

Ooops... I think I just dropped mine. Same damage too. Weird. ;)

So how much did it end up costing?

^^ I paid the standard $158 labor fee when I brought it in. Assuming they were just going to replace parts, and hoping that there wasn't going to be any additional cost after the initial estimate.

Now that's how customer service should be.
kudos to Canon.

Similar thing happened to my sigma 24-70. camera was on my tripod in my backyard taking a long exposure at night and we had some people over and someone well i was inside the house bumped in the tripod and tipped it over right on the font corner of the sigma and the side of my old body. broke the plastic lens body piece that surronds the metal part that mounts to the body. Called up sigma and pretty much to put it cut and dry got absoultely no where. well i take half that back they said they could fix it for 400$. So i put it in my camera drawer hopping that one day i will take it out of its case and it will be magically fixed. no such luck yet. blahh blahh yeah im rambling on.

But yeah its cool to see Canon hook it up like they did i cant say that for sigma unfortunately.
