I was outside taking pictures of a ruler using various combos of 100mm lens, extension tubes, and 1.4X TC, to use as a reference when trying to figure the size of small bugs by using the image on the screen. Then I found this tiny baby Black Widow under a lounge chair.

First time attempting to use a 1.4X TC in conjunction with extension tubes. All images are uncropped.

1. 100mm, set of Kenko tubes, 1.4X TC. Body is 5/32" long or 4mm.

2. Same combination. (I was using the ruler to block her escape so I could get a few shots)

3. Without the TC.

4. Also without the TC. I like this shot the best, though I could have composed it better.

Good set of pics.

I agree, I like #4 best out of them :)

Well, we have both here. In fact, I posted some adult Brown Widow shots a week or two ago:
https://photography-on-the.net …hp?p=10839005&postcount=1
But doing some research on the web, these shots look identical to pics of an immature Black Widow. But maybe in the early stage they both look the same.

Better background with closer focus on the eyes would make #2 my choice, I like the symmetry of the pose, and the menacing in your face character.

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

I'm taking a week's vacation starting this morning; on my way to Crater Lake, OR, and Mammoth Lakes, CA. No TV, no computer... hopefully I'll find some macro-subjects I haven't seen before, along with the obligatory landscape shots .

Cheers
