The OP DID take the original photo. Re-read the original post RD. Even if it wasn't clear from the first paragraph, later the OP says "...is identical to MY photograph."

Well, my bad then.

In that case, she does have the copyright, and, no, appearing in Facebook does not place it into public domain. All it does is give Facebook a fairly expansive license to use it.

In this case, watermarking the image would not have helped, however. If this were a case in the US, the first step would be to get the image registered with the copyright office as soon as possible, then, second step, see an attorney.
