Yesterday, I went to Best Buy to look for a smaller P&S to replace the G11 as the purse cam. I went in there thinking about getting a SD1300 or SD1400, but when I saw the S90 on clearance for $219.99, it was pretty much a no-brainer. :D Other than the display model, I think I got the last one.

I'll be posting some pics with it in the near future.

If you've wanted a S90, but thought it was out of your budget, be sure to check your local Best Buy--you may just get lucky like I did. :D BTW, if anybody is interested, I got mine at the Best Buy in Ocala, FL.

Heather :D

I checked and no luck. It's not even on the Best Buy website anymore.

And none at my local BB. They seem to want to disavow any knowledge of it.

Here is what I found locally:

Stopped into BB last week and some of the stores still had them for $399. They wouldn't discuss what "closeout price" would be until they officially have the S95 available. BB announced the S95 for sale on 9/19, hence the S90 was now "closeout".

First store I checked had the S90 for $349, the 2nd was still $399 and another (had an employee pull up stock and I could see the variance) for $271. When asked why the difference, he stated that the store has the pricing option on closeouts and it is not a corporate decision.

Great camera for $271. Especially considering that I am replacing an S410 after 6 years.

the Best Buys I went to yesterday had it for same at $299. However after I held both the S90 and S95, it does not matter to me. The S95 is for sure better.

Why do you say that?

Well, per my observation and opinion the grip of the S95 is 10 times better, not slippery, it seems more comfortable and secure. It is a positive sensation. The S90 does not give that, it is more of a let's say uncertain grip. Also the back where I usually put my thumb to hold the camera with my right hand, is differently shaped and also give more of a positive feeling. I did not even want to hold the s90 after I had the s95 in my hand. I definitely felt the difference by comparing one with the other at the same time and location.

It is also a little slimmer and therefore more pocketable.

My opinion anyway.

Now that the S-95 is available, the S-90 no longer takes good pictures.

;)
