As a powerseller on the Canadian Ebay site, I sell a lot of laser cartridges but I also buy a lot of things off Ebay from around the world, mostly from sellers in Canada, US and China. Ebay has made it tougher for scammers and bad sellers to work on Ebay with newer selling policies and the feedback system. Generally it's safe buying from someone that has 2000 feedbacks left as long as thier feedback percentage is 99% or better. Any less than that I would check the negatives very carefully. There are actually quite a few buyers out there that like nothing better but to give negative feedback on something they purchased just for the hell of it.

Paypal also holds any funds paid to the seller for 21 days if the seller is new or has under 100 feedbacks until positive feedback is left for that item or 21 days has elapsed, especially for high-risk items such as electronics, cameras, laptops, etc. If you do not receive your item within 30-35 days, file a dispute because once 45 days have elapsed, you would not be able to file any disputes and would lose your money. Do NOT let a seller give you excuses about delays. Scammers would try to tell you to wait a couple more weeks until the 45 day dispute limit is passed.

Also, on items over $250, a seller MUST ship the item with signature confirmation as well as tracking, which can add considerably to the cost of shipping overseas. This protects the seller from buyer scams but is a good idea for the buyer too.

The biggest issue with buying off Ebay, especially from outside of your country is the slow shipping and customs hold-up, which are NO fault of the seller yet sometimes buyers will leave a negative feedback if the item they bought took more than a week to ship from Chicago to Timbuktu. many times a country's customs can hold an item for weeks. If the seller shipped with a tracking number, you would be able to check for any border delays, but tracking between countries is pretty much non-existant.

^^^^ Yes, always check if they sold like items... Don't buy a camera from a guy that has a 1000 feedback rating selling iPhone cases...

this is not a good reasoning.

I have over 1500 + feedback with a couple of negative feedback as well.
Mostly I sell inflatables and hair clips, all are under $5 ea.

I will once in a while sell my camera equipments on ebay.

You can never judge someone by that reasoning.

I agree. However, this is sometimes a possible indication of a hacked account; especially if it's one that has not had any recent activity and all of a sudden has multiple high value items listed that are unrelated to previous sales.

It's not a hard and fast rule, just one more factor to consider when attempting to evaluate the legitimacy of a listing.

The item has been shipped, so all what i can do now is to wait, get the item received, then feedback.

Thank you all!!!

I wouldn't walk into a Dollar Store and buy a used $1000 DSLR, so I wouldn't do it online... just my opinion on the matter... maybe I'll miss out on a deal, but my chances of getting burned are less also...

Ahhh but I can. My job as a consumer is to protect myself. If your account has red flags, its easier for me to avoid it, even though they may not real problems. As a consumer I am worried about me, not you. That being said, I avoid ebay like the plague for most photo items, especially the big ticket ones. The prices are rarely below the market elsewhere where I can evaluate the seller by reputation and at my leisure.

You get feedback as a buyer also.
