well, i just received my new canon 50D in the mail yesterday! I was excited and went out and bough a new sandisk extreme III 4gb card..

Charged battery until it was completely full, started the camera to check functionality and insure it was good. Turned off the camera and checked the pins where the card gets installed and verified they were all straight.

Installed the card, and went to format and it reads "Cannot format card" and then i get the ERR CF code.

I tried formatting on my comp and the card reads fine! BUT, i cannot re-format card! Keep in mind this card/camera is brand new. I haven't even had a chance to take a photo yet with this camera... First impressions after switching from Nikon aren't going so good

any insight would be great, i would hate to have to send the camera into canon without taking a single photo!

i haven't had a chance to purchase another one.. my old nikon's didn't use the compact flash cards they just used regular cards..

i'm going after work to purchase another card to hopefully solve the issue at hand, but i have a strange feeling about this camera having an issue already... hopefully i'm wrong!

I just attempted to format it at work and it won't let me do it either... It is saying its already formatted FAT32 but won't let me format it any other way even if i try...

I'm going to the store and checking a card out there after work in hopes to have it work...

This issue is driving me nuts, it is my first camera since the old powershot A50 days and so far it hasn't been a good one :(

That's unfortunate--where'd you buy the 50d from?

From AMAZON, or did you place the order on Amazon; through one of their merchants?

Probably worth a shot, but the camera does load the firmware from the CF card.

No point messing around with it -- if it doesn't work out of the box, send it back.
