Even so, don't these ancient threads ever die? 240 pages? Why? Has ANYONE looked at page 132, to pick one at random, in the last year and a half? Just seems unnecessary *shrug*

I have. When I first start looking at buying a new lens, I read/look at the thread from #1 to the end. Maybe I'm odd.

I thought that was the problem, but now I'm finding that even some posts newer than my last post aren't showing the photos. So, now I'm thinking maybe it's the company firewall. Some of the places people use for storage, like DeviantArt, are blocked.

So you propose making a new thread for every picture?

Then when someone wants to see samples of a specific lens, they have to open God knows how many threads?

Way to think things through.

Haha, me neither. I'd eat it.

For owners of this lens, have you tried using it in servo AF with moving subjects? I'm just wondering how good Sigmas hsm is. Should be better than non-usm canon lenses, right?

Meh, not too great, but then I wouldn't say it's a 50/1.8 focusing

17 and learning..

I agree, having all posts in the one place is sensible and it helps. I started from page 1

With missing photos, isn't it just that the author has removed or deleted the pic so the link's no longer active? Like in page 1 of this thread?

Even so, there's more than enough photos around

This picture is just an awesome dog pic. Now I have a question and I know others will laugh at my ignorance but this is how you learn so here goes. Can you tell me about the background? Did you do that in photoshop or is the dog actually laying on a white backdrop of some sort?

I think it's a nice shot - subject pops nicely. :)...There isn't much that I could say was "wrong" with the picture, but perhaps a slightly too busy background that the short focal length couldn't blur out??

Well the background is pretty blurry, but other than that it's a nice shot ;)

Just got my 30mm today. It's focus is dead on at f/1.4 and surprisingly sharp at same.

No microadjustments needed on 7D

Is there a difference in Sigma's mount and My Canon XS? I have a chance to pick one of these up, but don't want to if it doesn;t fit my camera, right?

Thanks!
Brian

Appreciate the kind words. :D

The dog was laying on a bed with white sheets and I used a white body pillow as the background.

You need to buy the CANON mount (just like another other lens you plan on buying)

Sigma makes lenses with the Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Sony, and Sigma mount.

Your XS uses the Canon mount, so any EF/EF-S lens will work.

You don't have enough "breathing" room above his head. And the crop down the bottom is awkward - You chopped his hands off. You could easily fix that by cropping it slightly higher, just below his elbows. It would look more deliberate, then. Also, the pose is a bit stiff and at an odd angle. Next time, maybe have him bring the other side of his body around, just a touch. So it's at more of an angle then just a straight up and down pan.

Other than that, rad photo.
