I called today about the 5d mark II, but right now there on back order and they don't know when more will come in. They did have some 7d's though. I'm so torn between the two, maybe its a sign I need to get the 7d. I want the IQ of 5d but my son does tee ball and tae-kwon-do. I also like the occasional wildlife and bird shooting. My mind is boggled on what I need to do.

Ever changing.

If you're fond of the Sigma 10-20, go 7D. :)

You already have a crop for sports and wildlife...

I ordered a 5d Mark 2 last Friday, should be here tomorrow...sending in my Powershot S10 which is about 10 years old. I finally get to go full frame...:)

Monty - I called and asked which cameras were available they told me the models and prices. Then they asked me what camera I had to send in. I told them I had the S10 and a 300D, they said both were eligible. They sent me a return label and took my CC information to purchase the 5D Mark 2.

Once I get the 5D mark 2, I have to send back my S10.

This thread has been ongoing regarding the CLP.. Canon will take any digital P&S working or non for an EOS refurbished. They will give 20% off the refurbished price. Still a 90 day warranty vs 1 year. Sale tax in most states.

It sometimes takes a few calls to Canon to get a someone who knows about the program. I called last week when the 7D and 5D mkii were backordered and the woman, who was very nice, was aware of the CLP and said to keep checking the site to see if they would be back in stock.

Now, I'm torn as I want a FF, yet the 7D is cheaper in price and both are in stock...

ps- the 50D is still available with the CLP for a good price as well.

So what kind of price difference are we talking about here? Is this Canon's way of recycling older bodies, and maintaining customer loyalty?

I hope to someday get a 5D mk II, but not from the loyalty program. I just gave away my only busted DSLR to another forum member.

Not giving up my 7D yet.

=)

Interesting. So you can just call them up and say you have a broken Canon camera and they'll offer to replace it via the loyalty program?

I had a 300D that was getting kind of flaky on a few of the functions. I called them and they had refurbed 50D with and without a 28-135mm IS lens. I opted for the camera/lens kit and I think it was about $800 with shipping. I sent the 300D in stripped bare of all accessories including the body cap. I still have the 300D's original kit lens, battery charger, etc. I'd do this again in a heartbeat. This was about a year ago, I don't know what the current price is for a similar package.

Megapixels and high ISO are a digital photographers heroin. Once you have a little, you just want more and more. It doesn't stop until your bank account is run dry.

The camera was $1679.20 and they added tax to that. In MN, it came in slightly above $1800.

A standard refurb from Canon direct , not using the loyalty program shows at $2099 on the Canon site, so that is a savings of around $420. I won't complain, the S10 was just sitting around not being used. I will take a $400 price cut for a 10 year old P&S that hasn't been used in several years now...:)
