I bought 3ed party or 2nd party not sure which is which hoods for all of my canon lens and my daughters canon lens too and they work fine, good fit and are secure on the lens. For grips I went with Canon branded ones considering there are electrical connections that have to mate correctly but hoods ehh Chinese hoods work and fit properly soooo

i agree, there was no doubt in my mind , that i was going to go CANON on the grip.. I was just plex'd on the idea of spending $50.00 on a piece of plastic that others offer at $5.00 just without the CANON stamping..

I got the $6 ebay hood and it was just as good as any hood that came with any of the L lenses i had

Considering how badly a lot of the Canon-branded ones seem to mate with the lens, why not give aftermarket a try?

I have six Canon brand lenses all with lens specific hoods. One hood is a genuine Canon, the other five are eBay knock offs. The Canon hood, an EW-73B, has interior flocking which may or may not help cut reflectivity. The knock offs lack the flocking but have a matte finish on the inside. All of the hoods are of the same type and weight material and similar quality. The ONLY reason I have one Canon hood is because, at the time I purchased it, third party copies were not yet on the market.

Doesn't using an aftermarket hood, void your waranty, cause you to go bald, cause impotence and make your cameras shutter fall apart? ;-)a

I still can't figure out why Canon refuses to supply hoods with all their lenses, when almost every other manufactures does. And then bends their customers over, when they want them.

I've bought several lens hoods off e-bay and haven't had any problems with them.

eBay for sure! It's bull sh*t that Canon cannot include one with all lenses! My eBay version for my efs 15-85 is awesome, and for a fiver shipped to the US, I can replace it 9 times and still be ahead.

i bought from http://stores.ebay.com/cnphotter (external link)

he has the cheapest price i think, i bought the hood for my efs 17-85, and was VERY suprised when they arrived, and the insides of the hood had flocking on it like the more expensive canon hoods. not bad for $2.50 shipped!

Original or 3rd party, I just wish that all hoods had slots cut in them so you could rotate a polariser with the hood still attached.
