There is a night practice on thursday, and I want to do some sunset and night shooting at selected corners. I'm looking to add some variety to my ALMS shots- the other races I was at were all daytime.

IMAGE: http://www.lowbyte.com/pix/AwStPeteGp_23266.jpg

The race itself runs for 10 hours on Saturday. That will likely be enough ALMS for me :)

Nice shot Mark! That's tight - what lens were you using?

I'll start shooting weddings when they start holding them on Wednesdays!

Thanks Jon- that ALMS image is from a few years back- the 2007 St. Petersburg Grand Prix- back then it was a combined IRL and ALMS event.

I wish I had a setup shot- I was in the middle of a gaggle in the turn 10 exit, shooting in-between heads and over shoulders thru a roughly 3x2 "Photo Cut" in the fence. They make a hard left out of the long backstretch, and accelerate from 30-130mph from turn 10 to 11.

I don't have the image handy, but from memory it was taken with the 1d2n + 70-200 f/2.8L, panned at somewhere around 1/120 to try and wipe the nasty background fences. The partial shadows make the shot more interesting. In the full res version you can read the drivers names on the body under the drivers helmet clearly.

I think I had tried to get down to 1/80th, but I couldn't get enough space for that "perfect" of a panning motion in the gaggle.

That pic is one of my top 5 from that weekend.

Atlanta - Old Fourth Ward

Will be at Petit LeMans early. Sleeping under a tree by noon and up again for night.

Been trying to learn panning technique right quick. It's a little harder than I thought, lol.

Another one who's gear is better than their skill. For now.

It looks like I'm sticking to my schedule of Thursday and Saturday at Road Atlanta.

Count- if you would like some advice on shooting technique PM me and we can make arrangements to meetup at the track.

It would be good to put names to faces- so please feel free to contact me.

hey y'all.

anyone shoot at the atl prison farm? i want to go, but am a little worried the no trespassing signs.

I'm going to leave part of this story out, but, in the early part of a 2 week long road trip in college (read into that what you will), we pulled up to Fort Leavenworth.

Oh awesome, let's take pictures!

Yelling, screaming. Furious activity. Rifles pointed at us. We got real real quick and slinked away.

Still thankful they did not chase us down and give us a place to sleep for a couple of years.
