Today I went to Plum Island and had the chance to see some Great Egrets hunting. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow. They don't even compare to this shot though.

After I left Plum Island I stopped at a local pond to check out some Canada Geese. Imagine my surprise when this Great Egret flew right over the park, circled back, and flew down to the pond. I didn't think the shots I took would come out very good, but I was blown away by this one. I don't usually gets shots like this of birds in flight.

This shot is straight out of the camera aside from a crop, resize, and sharpen. The only nit pick I have is that you can see the telephone wires on the left side, but I don't think they take that much away from the photo, do you?

@ joove, dgraham329, Gaurav S., kmunroe, & BGgraphy - Thanks for looking and commenting. Your kind words are appreciated. :)

@ jgrussell - Thanks! I was worried it would be way blown out because I'd been playing around with the settings trying to get it right w/the Canada Geese. I'm so excited - still - that this photo came out this good! One of my best yet that's for sure!

@ ajosteve - They truly are beautiful birds, very unique! I hope you get to see them one day too.

@ Airedale1 - Thanks! I see you're from NH as well. I guess I should've worded it better, but by "local pond" I meant it was local to Plum Island. Have you ever been? This pond is off of 1A I believe a little bit before turning off on to the main stretch. It's in the middle of a city park.

Fantastic shot! I don't think the telephone wires are distracting.
If you are worried though, you could always clone them out if you use photoshop, or patch over them with other software.
I think it's fine though! Great capture :)

Absolutely gorgeous shot. I'm jealous. If the wires bother you, clone 'em. The AYES have it.

Have plenty of Canons, enough ammo, enough to blow 'em to "L". Now, I just have to learn to aim.

Beautiful image, excellent catch of an egret in flight. Your image would look great in a poster size hanging on a wall
