I have been searching and I have not been able to find a straight forward answer to what I am trying to accomplish.
What is the easiest way to transfer my whole LR3 catalog plus files to my new computer?
From searching I have seen instructions on transferring the catalog and then re-linking, but that seems like it might cause issues.
Thanks

I just recently transfer my catalog to a new notebook as well.

Basically this is what I did:
1. find the Lightroom 3 catalog previews.lrdata and Lightroom 3 Catalog.lrcat from the old computer. Usually under Lightroom folder in the pictures folder
2. replace the new preview and catalog files in the new computer, usually under the same folder.
3. Move all the images
4. link to the new location of the images.

I use an external harddrive for all my RAW files. So I don't have to move anything.
No problem at all doing this. I moved from windows to mac.

I used this method and it seems as if I have to link each folder individually.
Is there a way around this?
I also store most of my files on an external.
How do I link those to the new laptop without losing the developer settings?
lastly, whats the best way to transfer over my presets?

I did not link all of my folders yet.
I just linked the ones that I need.

When you're doing it correctly, all of the develop setting are all there.

you could transfer the presets the same way.
just follow the link I gave from the top post.
