Just picked up a 1D Mark III which was in the impacted serial # range. Focus is fine and no error messages but trying to decide if I should send it in for the sub-mirror recall. Hesistant about sending it in since there are no know issues. Any idea of how long Canon will be honoring this recall. The loaded Firmware is 1.2.3.

i sent three of our four bodies in for the fix tho none had problems before or after. i'd say send it in if you have the time.

Thanks Ed. Yeah, might as well do it now before collegiate and high school football starts here in the North East.

A just sent my 1dIII in to the Canon service center in NJ. Sent it in via FedEx 2 day on a Friday and got it back the following Thursday. Very quick turnaround right now.

Film, suckers.

Also note that while Canon initially published a serial number range, they subsequently published a list of serial numbers, in the range, that did not need the mirror fix. My 1d3 happened to be on that second list, and since I wasn't having the described problems, I never bothered to send it in.

Well, the Canon Service Center turnaround time was pretty quick. I sent it out on Monday and received it 7 days later. Unfortunately, it has been raining ever since I got it back.

I had to send mine into Canon-NJ 3 times.

The third time they got everything near perfect, the only thing that was off was the calibration from LV and VF. Through the VF it always underexposed slightly than through the LV even though the settings were the same, the metering was off. In rarer cases the WB is off.

I should say 3 times after the first time it went in for the fix, so 4 times total.

I'm about to send mine in.

I notice that in the fast bursts, there are several images in the burst that are soft.
I also notice that the in AI Servo, it's not as sharp as I would like.

After the Canon fix, I'm curious to see if anyone had problems like mine and are pleased with the fix. Noticeable difference?

I just got mine back. It was in for the sub mirror fix last Nov but then I got error 99 and sent it in. They said the mirror is not working properly causing the error intermittently so they replaced it again.

I also mentioned that focus was not consistent in AI Servo and on the paper it said they adjust focus and electronics parts to factory specs.

Just send it in until it's fixed. They send you a pre paid label for shipping too.
