call them up, tell them you are interested in a 5D II.

they'll ask you if you have a Canon camera, and it must meet the following criteria:

be a canon camera of course
in need of servicing, regardless of the severity
be out of warranty

you pay for the 5D II at their reduced price (mine was $1,599 before tax, your price may vary as it seems throughout this thread).

they ship it out to you FedEx 2nd Day. you get a return label to send your broken camera back to them.

wow. 5d markii came already. day and a half only. sweet!

Mine took exactly 24 hours for them to actually ship... just got the confirmation.

Not to complain, but a lot of e-tailers have the ability to ship instock items within only 1-2 hours. I'm not all that impressed with Canons expedited shipping.

It does sound like there are a few areas in the operation that need some fine tuning (starting with the CSR dept).

I was pleased that they were sending things out Fed Ex 2nd Day without an up-charge, and including the return shipping in the cost of the purchase.

They could have gotten the same tracking / delivery confirmation on the outbound from FedEx Ground, and could have put the cost of the return on the customer.

That was a nice touch.

I ordered mine Tuesday at around 9PM, so it didn't ship out until Wednesday evening.

I called on Monday and I was told $1680, but now they are $1600, is that correct?

mine was $1,599.20

according to this thread, the price seems to fluxuate, although I'm not sure why. maybe those of us getting cheaper prices are getting the ones that people sent back in during their 11th month of warranty after 50k+ pics taken

I'm hoping I get one that someone bought, and realized it was too much camera and sent it back! *fingers crossed*

that was before tax. I think they charge you whatever your sales tax is. in my case, my sales tax is 5%, so my tax was about $80.

I am in Oregon, no sales tax, so my total would be $1599.20, sounds like a great deal
