I'm not totally sure what it's purpose was. All I know is that this was the site of a "shafthouse". Between 1891 and 1913 a dam was attempted to be build to make a reservoir on Goose Creek. They never got it to work and now all there is left is this piece of equipment and a couple old buildings that housed the workers. It's in the middle of a beautiful wilderness area.

Looks like a winch of some description.. so might be the winch for taking stuff out of the shaft????
