And for camera addicts, there is PotN ;)

Yes, but somehow I think POTN has the opposite effect..it seems to amplify the need for more equipment, constant upgrades etc....:D

Indeed! POTN is more like your friendly neighborhood pusher than a rehab center.

Agreed! My wife wonders why I look at the L lenses with more passion than her. I may need help... just after I get the 300mm f/2.8 L IS USM.... and 5D II as a second body...and...

You're doing it wrong!!!

Look at (and act upon) more passion with her, then coerce her into helping you get the EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM, EOS 5D Mark II, etc.

What you need to develop is better salesmanship!

want to see if that'll work with a 500L though...

Maybe an mild overdose can be a solution to an addiction. ;)

You can compare it to tequila. It's good, but if you drink it all night, you're never touching it again :D

Was out shooting a soccer match with the 50D + 70-200 f/2.8 is, as I was capturing a close call by the goalkeeper, the coach approached me and said:
"I bet you can capture their facial expression with that thing"
I answered:
"Why, yes I can, just look at this"

I showed him the image I just captured of how the goalkeeper was fully extended tipping the ball over the goal.

The coach just silently nodded and retrieved to the dugout.

I had a shot once of a goal that they didn't count, but was about 28" over the line. Of course, that would have been our goal. I hollered something like, "It was a goal and I have it on film." The ref came over after the game and asked if I really had the shot. He looked at it and apologized for not awarding the goal. I guess it happens.

I was shooting a LL football game when one of the parents saw me with kneeling with the 300 2.8 and he said - what's this ESPN. We laughed and he asked for one of my cards. I'm taking the 500 with me Saturday so I wonder what will when they see it, especially with the camo on it.

It does happen, and even if there is photographic or video evidence, per the Laws Of The Game, referees are not allowed to take input from anyone or anything other than their assistants.

In the 2006 World Cup, when Zidane was ejected, the referee can be seen crossing the field with his hand up by his right eye, effectively creating a blinder for himself. He did this because there was a jumbo-tron showing what had happened, and he did not want to be influenced by what he might see there.

He was facing play on the other side of the field and did not personally see the headbutt. The interesting thing is, neither did either assistant, it was the fourth official who told him what happened, and there was a lot of discussion in the referee world about whether or not he had actually seen the incident live or on the replay...

I am a USSF referee instructor and the first slide I show in my Entry Level Classes says, "Officiating is the only job where you are EXPECTED to be PERFECT the first time you step on a pitch, with steady improvement thereafter..."

And do it under pressure and while people throw abuse and worse at you.
I wouldn't want to do it. :)
