Very nice shots. :) I was wondering when they actually went into the air, cuz the local paper had a few shots in it.
LOL the only ones I have are the mini balloon vendor and the one they had the kids going into to bounce a ball.

Has anyone ever attended a Northern Virginia Photographic Society meeting?

Is anyone here a member?

What are your thoughts and experiences?

Thanks

I have and I'm now a member. It's a very active group and they seem very good. The meetings are well attended. If you go to a meeting to check it out, get there early (like before 7:00PM, even though they don't actually start until 7:30PM) as parking is tight. I couldn't go to the last couple of meetings because of other committments, but the meeting three weeks ago had 110 people in attendance. Meetings are held in an activity room in the firestation as you've probably seen on the website.

What I've observed is that the "business" portion of the meetings tends to be relatively short in time, and that whatever program they have is usually very good. They organize field trips, both local and out of town. I have a couple photos in the "nifty two-fifty" thread from a recent club trip to Great Falls. While I didn't need the club to go there, given I go occasionally anyway, it was just a good motivator. Here's the link to the page where you'll find two photos from me from that morning:

https://photography-on-the.net …ead.php?t=459569&page=196

Check out the club for a meeting or two.

Hope this helps!

I have not been to any NVPS meetings but I'm in the Manassas-Warrenton club and know several NVPS members. What I've heard from all of them is basically the same as what mathogre says above.

To my knowledge, there are no 'bad' clubs in northern VA and NVPS is the largest and most active.

Was just looking through this thread and noticed that there hasn't been anything posted about next month's nature photography expo in Manassas. The event will have workshops, lectures, lots of top quality photos on display and a large vendor area.

If you are interested in a workshop or lecture you should register on line. If you wait until the expo starts they are likely to be full.

I'll have to check with my social secretary (AKA wife) to see what my schedule is supposed to be. ;)

Since today was a full moon i thought it would be a great time to check out Washington DC. Unfortunately the clouds caused a little trouble but, i still had fun! There was TONS of photographers trying to get that "prized" shot.

I've seen several photos from this same vantage point in the past, where do you go that lets you see all the landmarks in the same frame? I need to get out and actually tour dc more, instead of just eating at all the restaurants downtown

Nice photos!
