Not bad for a $40 purchase. Mono lake and the Grand Canyon

I prefer Pachelbels lesser known work, Canon in L and the 99 cent menu club.

Is the USM IQ different? I had the version II, non-USM...

Still got some great shots out of it in its "sweet spot"... :D

Yeah, the USM one is supposedly significantly better, IQ-wise.

I am sort of feeling like the XTi + kit lens is my very fancy Holga....

Earlier posts say it's the non-USM version, did the title change?

I think I've posted here but back when it was the non-USM thread... I'm confused...

I'm confused as well... I have the non-USM version and thought I was posting in the non-USM thread.... dunno if something changed, or if I've just been posting in the wrong thread... ???

I dunno. I think you may be thinking of the comments where they say it's the non-IS version, since the IS version is a comparatively new design that has noticeably better optics.

This thread is for the non-IS version. I didn't think there were optical differences between the USM and non-USM version of the 18-55 (non-IS) lens, but I've never compared them directly so I wouldn't know...

These are some of my first shots, I just got a hold of a 1000D/xs. I'm just surprised how easy it is to work with an SLR compared to the point-and-shoot.

P.S. Sorry for the picture quality reduction, but I seem to have a problem registering at photobucket... Also, as I am not sure which thread is which - what I have is a non-IS 18-55 lens, and I am satisfied with it, although it is a really slow lens, and non-tripod or flash low light shots are impossible.

I've since added some lenses to my collection, but have had some GREAT results with this lens! As has been said, it's all about how it is used!

Recently had to do a group shot in studio (on location) and the only lens I had that was wide enough was my kit. Pulled it out, set the aperture to f11 and with my strobes this was the result! Not too shabby for a kit lens!!
