Holy Trinity Horror Story...

I did a photo and video shoot at the abandoned six flags theme park in New Orleans this past weekend. See here for pics from the park (not my pics):

We actually had a permit to shoot there (we are shooting a movie there in a week) so we weren't trespassing at all. On location were myself, my assistant, the movie director, and three model mayhem models.

We did the shoot, had a great time, explored the park a bit, then wrapped up after dark. The sun was way down and there was no light except my flashlight as we packed my truck up. After packing, we drove back to basecamp, relaxed, looked at the great video we shot, congratulated ourselves, then unloaded the gear.

I quickly found one thing missing.... the lens case containing the 35L, 85L, 135L, 70-200L, and a bunch of B+W filters!

My assistant and I sped back to the location in total silence and found our trusty Pelican 1610 sitting there untouched. It sat there unguarded for over two hours.

I told my assistant that's the only lucky break we are ever going to get and double dummy checks are mandatory for now on.

Dude, that would have sucked. I would have LOVED to shoot there. That looks awesome

The closest I ever came to "forgetting" a lens was shooting a concert when, after the show was over and I was back stage packing away my gear, I noticed my 17-40 was missing. It took me a few seconds to run back to the stage and after scanning the stage, there it was, stage right, about 2 feet from the edge of the stage. Fortunately the stage was high (about 5 feet), and there was a crowd barrier. Still, I was in a panic for a short time. I had been thinking about getting a second body to minimize lens changes and that solidified my decision.

It was a huge relief. The way there was the most agonizing 30 minute drive I have ever made. The entire way I was trying to figure out which lens I was going to replace first and how long it would take me to build the collection back up. I was also bummed that I wouldn't be able to get a few more primes that I was hoping for this month (the 100L macro and 24L).

That's good to know you got it back safe and sound. It also helped it was abandoned too! :P

how fortunate. i would go into a deep depression if i ever lost the holy trinity.

You're damn lucky you didn't return to find yellow tape everywhere and the bomb squad about to turn your trinity into confetti...!

Man.. That is real horror...

Horror story with a cliffhanger and a happy end, just make sure there's no sequal ^^
