I have gear in a few different bags but there must be a better way. I find I am always moving stuff from one to the other. Any thoughts on a good solution for 1 or 2 bodies and 6 lenses and a few flashes?

Move inserts with gear already in them to differ size bags.
Non photo bags with Domke or equiv inserts will do the trick.
I have 1 large airline carry on size and 1 extra large above carry on size.
Most airlines and countries still allow the Ex Large as carry on unless you piss off gate people.

All of my gear is in my largest bag. I move it to my other bags as needed. I would at least recommend having your gear all in one bag. That way you're always ready to grab and go.

Steel tool chest with 6 inch and 8 inch drawers and foam from a large pelican case. Wheels off as I don't want it moved around. Locked to keep the curious out. Small drawers to keep the small bits.

One with lots of small drawers is great for prints.

I'm in the process of typing up a review right now of how I'm accomplishing this

Moved up to a Pelican 1650 case with dividers that holds EVERYTHING.

What I've been doing is keeping everything in the Pelican which allows me to bring everything with me. Depending on what I'm going to shoot, I simply bring the ThinkTank Backpack or the ThinkTank belt system along and load it from the vehicle out of the Pelican.

This way if once I get to the shoot, I need something else that I've forgot, I can run back out to the vehicle and grab it out of the Pelican.

I honestly cant believe I've waited this long to get it because it works so damn good. Plus, we have two dogs that shed alot, so it seemed that the gear being stored in a closet was always collecting dog hair.

With the gear in the Pelican case, it's sealed against anything, Hair, Dust, Dirt or even water incase your house was to flood

This is the way I do it as well.

Well seeing as I dont have a heck of alot of gear, I just keep it all in my bag, and my bag in my closet. Can pick it up and go at a moment's notice, as its always filled with everything I need.

Pelican 1650 with dividers and the lid organizer is "home base" for everything except my 500 f/4 which goes back to its own hard case.

Gear gets "checked out" (cleaned, charged, etc...) and organized into the bag or bags of choice for the given project and then re-inventoried into the Pelican afterwards.

Most of its in my Canon backpack on a shelf in the closet. The camera + mounted lens sits next to the flash on a nearby bookshelf for easy access.
