Spider Pro CAUTION

This is from a buddy of mine. he just had this happen to him.

what a fragile one.. how long did he buy and use for it?

geesh... how the hell can they expect a simple 5mm dia shock-cord hold up expensive camera gear?

from the closeup, there's no reinforcing stitch-tacking to hold the cord in place, but more so, poor choice in material usage.

the elastic bands will get cut if you apply dense stitching or bar-tacking
the polyester fiber will pretty much slip through the stitches.

when i used such shock cords in my garments, i made sure they had at least 1" of cord between the cut end and the stitches and this is only for garments, no force needed.

heck, these guys are also notorious for losing their elasticity when subjected to prolonged tension...

Spider had a recall on the belt. Is this the new revision or the old one?

That shock cord only holds and stabilizes the holder, it still hooks over the belt for the main connection.
The clip over the top of the belt is the main weight bearing connection.

Personally I think you should contact the manufacturer of ANY product before complaints are posted on any forum. Most of the time issues like this can be resolved. Provide the manufacturer with the opportunity to determine if it is user error- product defect or misuse of the product.

BUT thats just my feeling...

that's cool, so just let people using the current system just drop their camera? No one is complaining, I'm just warning people that use this to BE CAREFUL and maybe re-inspect their gear.

It's really obvious that you've worked in qualitty control. I mean that in a good way.

As for now, I CANNOT TRUST this belt, still love the holster (wearing it on my regular pants belt). Also I am switching back to my BlackRapid RS-5 Camera Strap, until I hear what Spider Pro will do with this situation.

I'll be at Photo East on Thursday and will share your image with the folks at Spider. I'm sure the owner will be there and interested.

The "and" that broke only adds a bit more stability to the metal portion of the spider pro system. I doubt this would cause a camera to be dropped.

I think the statement could be a little misleading::

Here is an image of my belt, you can see the holster came apart. The "band" that hold the holster, just broke loose and I didn't even know it. I have my Nikon D700 w/ 24-70mm on and clip to my belt from last nights wedding. I always have my hand on my camera while it is attach to the belt (just in case, now I'm glad I had my hand on my camera). I was using the belt all day of the wedding until the last few hours. Then I went to grab my camera off the holster to shoot, and the holster came off w/ the camera. That totally open my eyes, as to how close I would of had my camera on the floor w/ whole wedding still in progress.


Is this a QC or potential issue..Sure .. I would not expect the band to break.

I doubt any camera is going to hit the floor due to the breaking of this band.

Kris Hinh Spider Pro has contacted me ASAP right after I made this post. We had a long 1 1/2 hr. long distance phone call. During our talks, I can tell you this. Spider Pro stand behind its products and the owner is a photographer just like all of us. I will get a replacement belt and will post updates after a few usage. I still believe and has always believe in this system, just needed a new redesign belt.
