I understand that their 22" BD is excellent (based off of the Mola Designs) and feature 2 Grids to provide versatility.....

? AFAIK, there's only one grid.

Had an 805 pack w/ 102/105 heads in the past. Probably would have kept using Speedo if I had the lighter 202VF heads. Then Kacey had to make adapters to let AB users use Elinchrom mods so went to the WL/AB/Einstein. And I still use the Speedo dish on the bees thanks to Kacey's adapter :)

FYI, the *05 Speedo packs have less power consistency than the *03 packs. The *03 packs are much heavier so I suspect they have more banks of switching capacitors. Never did find an Explorer1500 pack for a decent price used...they seem to get snapped up at around the $1200 mark...

p.s., someone on MM used a 2403 pack w/ a VB-II...does work, but recharges slowwwwwly because of the massive power draw....

I got my eye on a couple 2403cx packs on e-bay. I'd like to get some 1205's, but I haven't seen many of those used.

I think that $1200 is good price for that product (about 1/3 off the New Price).....
I wish I could find one for $1200, I'd be all over it! The problem is finding one used at all. They are such good products that they very rarely become available on the used market. I've seen only 3 in the last 4 years..... One was on CraigsList (which I wasn't going to deal with) and two were on eBay (one was the Non-Digital Unit and the other was the Digital Unit) which both wind up going for $1400-$1500 respectively.....

I believe that there are two 1205's on eBay right now. But they regularly appear on eBay at least a couple of times per month. I prefer the 805's and the 1205's.....

Would it be safe to run some of the 202VF heads with the plastic protective covers over them and the monolights off? Like if you need several heads plugged in to get a certain power ratio, but didn't want those lights affecting the exposure of your main light?

You mean modeling lights instead of monolights I presume?
And no. Try it and you'll find out. Buy a spare plastic cover first...:D

I just saw a larger pack and two heads for sale over at FredMiranda.com.

I thought about adding one of the lights to my setup but it is in NM and I'm in Ga so I passed on it. eBay usually has several liights and pack plus modifiers for sale.

That's what I meant. Is there a metal cover or something that can be used?

Heat has to escape when you pop the flash tube...that's why the plastic cover would melt...

I don't know if the covers would melt as others have said, but I ran two of my heads into a closet once to really reduce the output of just one head. They guy I got my lights from said he sometimes put them in a cardboard box to do the same thing.

Yes, that is called deadheading, pointing a head away from the subject to reduce the output of the ones on the subject. It isn't safe to use the lights very much with any kind of cover on.

Decided to order an adapter from Adorama for my beauty dish since they had them in stock. I didn't cancel the B&H one. I figure it may come in handy down the road and it's only $22.

I think I'm going to pick up the Kacey Speedo to Elinchrom adapter as well and get one of their large octabanks.

Just paid for a Tronix Explorer XT SE. Adorama shipped my adapter for the beauty dish. All I need now is a way to carry everything.

I was looking at a Pelican case as well to carry all my crap in.

You can do that, but take the Plastic/Metal cover off of the flash, then you can "bleed" the head off in another direction so that the light doesn't affect the subject..... We use to "bleed" heads all the time when we shot room sets.

Good deal, man. I use mine constantly and it's been 100% reliable.
