Fairly new to this so pls bear with me.
I cannot seem to open/view my RAW images when I'm opening them up with DPP. I am able to view them in the ZoomBrowser and it's telling me that they are RAW files but I cannot get it to open with DPP. When I do try and open the file in DPP it tells me, "encoding error."
Can anyone shed some light?

Have V. 3.8
Canon 7D
sorry about that.
Seems that when in DPP I can see the file name but there is no visible image and when I attempt to open the file I cannot. When looking at it through the zoom browser and trying to edit it through DPP that's when it tells me that there is an "encoding error."

Do you have thumbnails on the Main page? Where are the files located, on your internal HD? Have you tried both Edit and Edit Image windows.

In ZB browser window you are seeing only the embedded jpgs. Will they open in RIT?

In DPP there are no thumbnails. Only a file name. I am able to open and view them in zoom browser but that's all. Once I try to use DPP to open and edit I'll get "encoding error."

RIT? Sorry but don't know this.

Raw Image Task.
The raw processor used in Eos Viewer Utility (Mac). Don't know what the software is called for windows.

brolic -
Are the RAW files on your hard drive, in a card reader or are you attempting to view them while the camera is connected to your computer by usb cable?

ZoomBrowser evidently no longer has support from RIT -- if you are in the normal view mode you click Tools and it will direct you to Process Raw images in Digital Photo Professional -- RIT is nowhere to be found. And, apparently the OP has tried this.

O.k., that reinforces my point that in ZB he is seeing only the embedded jpgs and raises the possibility of corrupted files. We have seen cases where the RAW data was corrupted although the display jpg was not, usually caused by a faulty card. But in the absence of an alternative converter it is impossible to know if the fault is in the file or DPP. I would suggest the OP does one of two things, either post up a file on yousendit for others to examine or download a trial of a third party converter.
Since the OP is a new poster the possibility of pilot error also exists, specifically if he is trying to use DPP to access CR2s through a direct connection to the camera.

Good idea for posting up your Raw file, OP -- with a place like YouSendIt.com, it's very easy -- attach your Raw file, put your email file as a recipient, then when you get email with a link to your file post it to the thread here.

Is there no other Canon software?

On OSX, I have Image Browser (6.3.1.12) and Eos Viewer Utility (1.2.1.14) installed.

Image browser will open my 1DMk2 and 1DMk3 Raw files using RIT.
Screenshot for Mk3: (The option is grayed out because I already chose it.)

Eos Viewer Utility however, will only allow me to convert and save 1DMk2 raw files:

Might be these are just older versions. In that case I'd better not upgrade ;)

You know, I never installed an older version -- I guess I could from one of my disks from an older camera, but that kind of gives me the willies:)! Anyway, so I don't know what would come up if I ran SoomBrowser say, from my 5D or 30D or whatever. But with the recent stuff I don't see RIT anywhere!
