A quick video I threw up from my NASCAR weekend at Auto Club Speedway.

http://www.vimeo.com/15943163 (external link)

Tried to keep everything at 50mm utilizing a 50mm 1.8, Lensbaby Double Optic (approx 50mm) and 28-135 IS (mostly at 50mm). Used 1080, 720 and crop frame to get different images.

Shot on the 60d (which pretty much rocks except for the damn "safety dial" when I switch from AV to Video and back again)

Very nice video. It seems like it captures the mood of the event well, especially with the music you used. Pretty cool!

Nice! My 60D and 50 1.8 are in route, so seeing stuff like this is pretty cool. Question: some of your shots have blurred corners/edges. Is that an effect? Or an issue with the 50 1.8, etc? Just curious.

Thanks! Keep posting more stuff!

pretty nice. sounds like the 60d makes for a solid video camera. was wondering if it also has as much control as the 7d in video mode in manual? i have a friend looking at the 60d

Thanks for the feedback. That blurred effect is the lensbaby at f 2. I used it at f/8 the day after and the effect was less blurry and I liked that more, but i wanted a little variety other than the 1.8, so I used my lensbaby.

I was using a t2i before this and I found some limitations between it and the 7d, mainly, custom color temeratures and limited iso settings. The t2i does have crop frame mode though that I've found useful (like in this video). With the 60d I get the best of both - and expanded amount of control in manual video mode and crop frame. And the screen is pretty money too.

very cool edit.

great use of depth of field with focusing on close objects to farther objects quickly and smoothly.

Thanks Ekean and mdruziak!

I used Premiere Pro CS5... My first time using Premiere in quite a long time, but the learning curve for the basics of the program is fairly minimal.

Be careful shooting video at events like that while you are in the infield/pitroad. Nascar usually throws a fit if they catch you shooting video without their permission.

Beyond that it was a great video, you really captured the moments of the event!

I guess that NASCAR hasn't caught on to people actually shooting video with their SLRs, I got paid no attention to and there were officials all over the place. Hopefully they don't catch on, because I already want to go back and shoot in the pits again.

Thanks for the heads up though, now I know that if I get busted, its my own fault. HAHA
