Currently on hold with Canon Customer Service. It is not going well. They insist I ordered Mark I version.

After 40 minutes (mostly on hold) the supervisor recognized the error and stated that he would escalate the complaint and have someone higher up phone me tomorrow.

I escalated it as well.. But, also cancelled my order. Don't need a refurbished 70-200 is i at the new price from several months ago...
They admitted (and it makes sense), that they don't even have refurbished IS ii's to sell since it's so new.. They also said, that what's listed as refurbished may not even be refurbished... May be new.. They're just trying to liquidate the old model..
My guess is if I squawk enough, they'll give me a minor discount on a new 70-200 IS II, but would be nwhere near the price amazon/adorama/b&h are selling it for now..

I wonder if Canon's site got hacked.

The EF 28-135 IS came off the site pretty quick after being advertised for $120, which regularly sells for around $400 street. Canon's refurb prices have never been discounted that much that I'm aware of, however this lens disappears from the page.

The 24-105L went quick at nearly half the retail price and also disappeared from the page. Again, that's a huge decrease in price compared to other refurb lens prices.

And then the 70-200 mark II, a lens that is less than a year on the market, gets a big discount and then the refurb availability flip-flops between in-stock and backordered at least a couple times within a few hours, and then the title of the lens is changed where one of the "I" is removed and yet the overview and features info remains with Mark "II" info.

Something is very fishy here. Either someone hacked their web site or the Canon employee who manages the refurb lens pages is a total idiot.

Either someone hacked their web site.

If someone who has the skill to hack Canon's site and did only that much, he/she was an idiot.

(i.e., your conspiracy theory is way too farfetched.)
