****. I was hoping that mine was just acting up. Thats exactly what mine does. Any quick fix for this to make those little springs pop back up after taking off the flash? I ordered mine online, have a wedding coming up in 2 weeks, and do NOT want to deal with the hassle of shipping and returning the camera.

Easy to fix: you just have to bend the spring leaf.
Go exactly with a little screwdriver under the springleaf where the red arrow is, twist the screwdriver clockwize
so you will bend the spring upwards; do this little by little.
Once the spring is properly bend ... ;).....you are in business.
I changed external flashes a lot and it works great.
Is Canon gone pay me for this advice?

I use the Sigma 18-200 OS. A bit heavy, but quality is quite good if you get a good copy, with a terrific range.

How to get a good copy? I live near B&H, so I often buy two or three of the same lenses, test them thoroughly, and keep the best one. I assume you could do the same with mail order.

Testing? Shoot test subjects with lots of detail in different situations, and compare sharpness at different apertures and focal lengths with each lens. Or, don't obsess with tests - just take normal pics and if they look OK - you're good! :-)

thanks skanter.
i ordered the 17-70 sigma last night from abes of maine. now i'm thinking maybe i should have ordered three!

I would not worry about it - pray they pick and good copy and relax about it. If you get a copy below what you want, return it and get another.

As a Canuk you may appreciate this site if you were not aware of it - it daily monitors CND prices of Camera bodies, lenses/gear and shows who has the best prices:

Some photos from my 60D. I've had it about a month now. My only previous camera like this was a Minolta D7Hi.

All of these were taken by hand with the stock 18-135 kit lens.

Dear Canon:

The 60D AI Servo does not perform as well as the 50D!
My keeper rate is down drastically due to out-of-focus issues.
I became pretty adept at tracking BIF and I was not excited about the 60D performing better than the 50D - I just expected it would perform the same - and if the 60D was an improvement - Cool!

.

A pity you've found this. Hard to understand why as you say it should be the same. Have you considered possibly copy variation being a factor...?

just wondering if there are any other users out there who feel the same way as immaculens--is it possible that you got a lemon or are there others who feel the same way? i've only had my camera for about 2 weeks now and haven't tested out everything. If this AF issue is true of all 60ds then i might have to consider taking mine back to the store!
