What type of account do you have Duane?

Apparently Business accounts for example cannot receive free gift payments.

i have received free gift payments with a business account.

I've sent personal payment free several times from my bank account. You can use a credit card, but there is still the ~3% fee (sender decides who pays that)...

I always have a $0.00 paypal balance and I've gifted 20xs at least with a bank account on file. Besides I dunno why I even used to use gift....I now just send the ammout plus the fee. Cost me the same, seller gets the same and were protected.

What's funny is that paypal ToS says that a seller can not legally request the buyer pay the fee. Sucks that the forums won't enforce it

I sent a personal payment once to a business account and it charged the person. That was the first and last time i ever tried using it myself.

You notify Paypal after you pay them + fee and their account is toast. I've seen people do this to others randomly after they got caught and had accounts suspended for breaking rules. If you don't think it's fair then don't buy from anyone charging fees and let them know why. Although to get around this rule very easily one could simply add a handling fee.

I have just a regular paypal account and can send and recieve gift payments. When I send it needs to come from my paypal balance or my linked checking account.

Although to get around this rule very easily one could simply add a handling fee.

Or just raise the price of the item by the 3%, either way the buyer pays the fee, knowingly or burried into the cost of the item.

i have tried twice now and could not send personal payment with my bank account, it is confirmed so i should not have a problem.

I am gonna try emailing them and see if they can tell me whats going on and why I can use my bank account to send money.

Does it give you an error or is the option just not there? Have you ever been able to do it?

I click on change funding source and I am unable to select my bank account, the information about my bank account is there, all gray, different color than my credit card information, but it will not let me select it as the funding source, just the other credit cards and eChecks are available as funding sources.

It has to do with the amount I am sending, when I try a lower amount I can use my bank account.

I list my checking account debit card as my "credit card", so it all comes from the same source anyway. But then, I use a separate checking account for Paypal only and do not allow PayPal access to my regular accounts.

i use my bank account to pay for everything through paypal and use the "gift " option all the time. Seems to be working for me here, have a premier account if that matters.
