I believe it. I had to return a new 40D a couple of years ago that when turned off and placed in the bag would continue to fire intermitently. Canon laughed at me, but B&H replaced it.

I had the problem even without the lens. that sounds like the start of: "we were unable to replicate the fault" some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:
