I am wondering if something is wrong with my 5D2. I thought I might have had a bad battery, so I got another one. I got 411 images and have 11% battery life remaining. I hear people boast that they get 600+ easily. Is my battery usage normal?

Are you doing any long exposure shots? That wears down the battery a lot. Live view and HD video also wears it down fast. Do you have the rear LCD turned off when shooting?

I went to an air show and took 950 photos, and probably 10-20 short video clips and still had 25% battery left.

I haven't tried my canon brand battery yet. I'm still using a 3rd party battery, and so far, 300+ pics and 36% battery life.

no IS lenses, but I do use the LCD to view my pics, and zooming in and out through the LCD. I used live view more than a few times on the same battery.

the 3rd party battery seems to be holding up pretty well, and displays the battery info just as the Canon brand.

Does the 3rd party battery also show the bars for how well it's charging?

What really eats batteries is having the camera tethered to the PC in liveview with a remote view window. Not sure why, but batteries don't cut it for that. Haven't really counted, but far less than 100 shots (maybe less than 50?) on a fresh battery. For that the ac power adapter is a must.

Not classy like the other fabulous pics in this thread, but here's a small bowl.

I do like the price, it makes getting multiples more attractive. One reviewer says he could not register the batteries like the OEM with a 5d2.

But you have a 5d2 and they register exactly the same as OEM?
